About agediscriminationcalc.com
agediscriminationcalc.com is a free employment law reference resource maintained by The Click Lab. Our calculator and guides help workers 40 and older understand age discrimination protections under the ADEA, recognize when those protections may have been violated, estimate potential damages recovery, and understand the procedural steps — especially the critical EEOC filing deadline — for protecting their rights.
What we do
We translate the ADEA’s complex statutory and case law framework — including the but-for causation standard, the willfulness doctrine, the OWBPA severance waiver requirements, and the interaction between federal and state age discrimination law — into plain-English calculators and guides. Most employees have never navigated employment discrimination law before they need it. Our goal is to give workers enough understanding of the legal framework to have an informed conversation with an employment attorney and to protect their own rights during the critical early period after a discrimination event.
Every page is reviewed by our editorial team before publication, updated when case law or regulatory changes affect accuracy, and grounded in the actual statutory text and leading judicial decisions under the ADEA. The calculator methodology is documented in full on the methodology page.
What we don’t do
We do not provide legal advice. ADEA claims are highly fact-specific, and whether a particular employer action constitutes age discrimination depends on details no calculator can assess — the specific evidence available, the applicable circuit’s interpretation of the but-for standard, and strategic considerations about how to present the claim to the EEOC and in federal court. If you believe you have been the victim of age discrimination, consult a licensed employment attorney in your state promptly — the EEOC filing deadline is strict and missing it usually ends the federal claim.
